Solar Helps World Trade Center Stand Tall

One World Trade Center Perforation51ÁÔÆæ customer, Quality Perforating, Inc. (QPI), is supplying 175 square feet of perforated aluminum panels that will be used in the exterior walls of the new One World Trade Center in Manhattan, NY.  QPI’s 3,600 perforated panels surrounding the bottom 20 stories of the structure will be adorned by exterior, stainless-steel-clad aluminum louvers.

As a leading manufacturer of perforated sheets, coils and component parts, QPI relies on 51ÁÔÆæ to heat treat their punches and plates used to make these critical sheets. Their requirements differ from many tool and die shops because the tooling reaches Solar in a finished state and will not require finish machining or grinding.  Therefore, the Solar process must have minimized size change and distortion during processing and yet still achieve a stable, hardened part that has a good balance of wear and shock resistance.

Sales representative, Tim Steber notes, “QPI makes their own tool sets and they are one of the fastest-growing, most technologically oriented perforator in the country. We are proud to be one of their critical suppliers, especially on this project which is their largest.” As QPI Tooling Manager, Robert Taylor adds, “Working closely with Solar has enable us to develop specific heat treating processes for each of the different materials we use.  Consistent high quality, prompt communications, and a fair price is why we choose 51ÁÔÆæ as our heat treater.”
